District 7890 is a member of ESSEX, the Eastern States Student Exchange. ESSEX is a collaboration of Rotary Districts from Canada and the eastern US as far south as North Carolina, and Bermuda. Established in the 1960's, ESSEX provides centralized Youth Exchange services to member Districts.
Rotary offers both long-term school year exchanges and short-term summer exchanges.
LONG-TERM
Outbound students from District 7890 leave usually leave in mid to late August and return the following June or July. Students take classes in the local language. Youth Exchange fosters independence, and students become fluent in a new language, make new friends, develop close bonds with host families, and have the best year of their lives.
For every student sent overseas, District 7890 hosts a student who has the same opportunity in the US.
Each year Rotary International sends over 7,000 students aged 15 to 18 to live and study in another country. It could be YOU next year. If you like to travel and are ready for adventure, then this is the perfect program for you. Rotary Youth Exchange offers a program where you can go to a high school in another country for a year, live with several host families, and learn about another culture! It is an adventure which will challenge you, thrill you, and broaden your horizons. It could be the best year of your life.
SHORT-TERM
The Short-Term Family-to Family Exchange arranges for the student's family to host a matching Rotary applicant (between the ages of 15 and 18 1/2 years) usually during the summer. Exchanges can be arranged between the two families for not less than 3 weeksand not more than 6 weeks. The exchange in each country is for an equal amount of time except for Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, and South Africa, where a longer stay in the US is required.
Rotary offers both long-term school year exchanges and short-term summer exchanges.
