As of this week, seventy-eight Rotarians and friends have registered to attend the Atlanta Convention.  There are over 2000 Rotarians in our district.  With this convention occurring just a few days drive or a short plane ride from us, no doubt many more of you will decide to attend.   The price is $415.  There is special pricing for Interactors, Rotaractors, Rotary Alums, family 5 to 18 years old; kids under 5 can go for free.  To check for fees which might affect you, your family and friends, go to http://www.riconvention.org/en/atlanta/registration-fees)
An event you will not find on the convention website, which everyone in our district will want to attend, is the Beyond Borders Dinner on Sunday, June 11th, an annual event at RI conventions. This year’s dinner is being held near the Convention Center at the Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta, catering by Wolfgang Puck.

So, now that you are giving serious thought to registering.  If you have not attended a Rotary International Convention before, here are a few things you may want to know.  Some events do cost money in addition to the basic registration fee, e.g. the birthday party, major donor reception, the Atlanta Braves game celebrating polio eradication efforts.  Usually a good variety of food options are available in the House of Friendship at reasonable prices.  All plenary sessions and breakout sessions, as well as admittance to the House of Friendship, a phenomenal place, are all included in the registration fee.  As importantly, dress is decidedly casual.  This is summer in Atlanta – shorts or slacks, casual shirts and sandals are acceptable menswear.  Lightweight dresses, slacks and casual shirts and sandals are acceptable womenswear.  Of course, various events and venues may require a sport-jacket, sweaters, etc.
