Join the Bone Marrow Registry on August 22, 2012, Sponsored by Rotary Club of Southwick, MA

Every year 10,000 men, women and children desperately search the National Marrow Donor Program’s Be The Match Registry of volunteer donors in hopes of finding a marrow match. Gerry Proulx is an example of one of those patients.
Gerry, a 30-year charter member of the Southwick Rotary Club, has always led an energetic and healthy life.  The owner of Proulx & Proulx Architectural Designs, a general and commercial contractor since 1974, Gerry was born in Springfield, MA.  Six months ago, Gerry received devastating news.  He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells, a type of white blood cell normally responsible for producing antibodies.  Multiple myeloma is the second most common hematological malignancy in the US, and constitutes 1% of all cancers.  He is currently undergoing an aggressive course of chemotherapy at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield.  Gerry is confident that he can win this battle.  For now, the ultimate cure would be a bone marrow transplant.  YOU could be the match for a patient like Gerry.

To join the marrow registry and support people like our fellow Rotarian Gerry, please join the members of the Southwick Rotary Club on Wednesday, August 22, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Moo-licious Farm, 258 Feeding Hills Road, Southwick, MA.  If you have questions, please call 800-283-8385, ext 720 or email marrow@ribc.org.  Tissue typing & processing fees are covered by most health insurance companies in RI, CT, MA & NH.  Please bring your insurance card with you.  If you do not have health insurance coverage for these procedures, Michael's Fund of Fall Fiver will cover the cost as the event's sponsor.  There is no out-of-pocket expense to register.
